SkyWater Technology Launches OnRamp to Support the Next Generation of Quantum Innovators
New program provides direct access to engineering expertise, foundry resources, and a practical roadmap for growth
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — October 27, 2026 — SkyWater Technology today announced the launch of OnRamp, a foundry initiative designed to help early-stage quantum hardware startups move from laboratory prototype to commercial manufacturing. Through OnRamp, selected teams work directly with SkyWater’s fab engineers to assess their device concepts, develop a foundry-validated manufacturing roadmap, and gain access to SP90, SkyWater’s 200 mm silicon nitride photonics platform for quantum applications.
“Many early-stage quantum companies have breakthrough technologies but limited access to the resources needed to work with foundries,” said Mihir Bhaskar, SVP & GM, Quantum Solutions, SkyWater. “OnRamp gives founders direct access to the expertise, infrastructure, and guidance needed to make informed decisions earlier and advance from lab to fab with confidence. By engaging with companies at the earliest stages of development, we can help them evaluate manufacturability sooner and accelerate their pathway to scale.”
Engaging with commercial foundries typically requires abiding by their strict design rules and committing up-front to high volumes. OnRamp solves this challenge by connecting founders with SkyWater engineers who work with each team to evaluate their designs, materials, and packaging needs. Startups walk away with a foundry-validated manufacturing roadmap they can use to support fundraising and prepare for commercial production, while retaining full ownership of their design and process intellectual property.
SkyWater’s OnRamp program is built around SP90, its 200 mm silicon nitride photonics platform. Operating as an open-access foundry, the company supports a wide range of quantum hardware modalities including trapped ion, neutral atom, photonic quantum computing, quantum networking, quantum sensing, as well as advanced classical photonics. SP90 supports wavelengths from 400 to 2000+ nm and enables the integration of technologies such as III-V lasers, superconducting single-photon detectors, thin-film lithium niobate frequency converters, diamond memory, and cryogenically compatible optical packaging. Together, these capabilities provide a level of flexibility and integration not otherwise available through traditional commercial foundry offerings.
OnRamp builds on SkyWater’s longstanding role in supporting the quantum and advanced photonics ecosystem. For more than a decade, the company has worked with innovators to develop next-generation quantum and photonics technologies and has shipped quantum wafers for customers pursuing advanced sensing, networking, and computing applications. Through OnRamp, SkyWater is bringing that expertise and support to a new generation of quantum innovators, helping them build a stronger foundation for growth and commercialization.
Teams interested in OnRamp can learn more and apply to the program here. Selected OnRamp companies receive no-cost access to SkyWater engineering resources to scope their foundry roadmap, and early access to prototypes on SkyWater’s SP90 platform.
